MYSTIC VALE
Project Creators / Director: Allison Moore & Arthur Desmarteaux
TRT: 3:42
Country of Origin: Canada
Synopsis: Mystic Vale is a forested ravine in Victoria, the traditional territories of the Lkwungen (Lekwungen) peoples, near where the artist grew up. The Douglas fir ecosystem located on the Hobbs creek watershed features 75 native plant and wildlife species. For the past 8 years the artist has been using photogrammetry techniques to capture the forest environments on Vancouver Island as a way to document and archive the forest ecosystems. The photos are processed using triangulation to generate 3D model point clouds, which are then reconstructed into virtual environments to create generative animations. The viewer is submersed into a mossy lush temperate rain forest. Original sound composition features field recordings of the forest designed by Arthur Desmarteaux.
HONEY BEE GROUP HUG
Project Creators / Director: Simon Le Boggit
TRT: 4:20
Country of Origin: United Kingdom
Synopsis: This is a fresh new swarm of wild honey bees, clinging to each other on a Lincolnshire UK woodland hedge. They are surrounding and protecting their queen, who has led them away from their previous bee colony when it became too old and overpopulated. This new swarm will cling to the hedge for a couple of days, while scouts go out and about looking for a permanent nesting sight. Returning bees can be seen performing a waggle-dance imparting directional information to their companions.
ENTWINING OF LOST SOULS
Project Creators / Director: Simon Le Boggit
TRT: 9:11
Country of Origin: United KIngdom
Synopsis: The algorithmically generated music soundtrack of this video was created from a process of entangled chaos, repetition and mutation in which melody and harmony spontaneously emerge from chance events and the human compulsion to identify patterns. Its animated abstract visuals are similarly generated from that same random database. Despite the mindlessly mechanistic origins of this video artwork, its gently mesmerising influence may sometimes illicit unexpected waves of emotion.
